Find temporary accommodation
The first thing you’ll need to do is find some temporary accommodation so you and your family have somewhere to stay while waiting for your new home to become available. There are plenty of options available, including the following:
- Serviced apartment – staying in a serviced apartment is great if you’ve got a gap of one month or longer between leaving your old property and your new one becoming available. Fully furnished with everything you’ll need and will have a kitchen so you don’t have to accrue huge bills dining out.
- Stay with friends and family – if you’ve got generous friends and family that have plenty of space to accommodate you, then staying with them is a cheap and easy option. Be prepared to shower them with presents for their kindness, though.
- Hotel – if the gap between moving dates is a week or two, then it may be easiest to stay in a hotel or B&B. Thought it may be pricey, you won’t have to worry about bedding, cooking, or cleaning and can spend some time relaxing before moving again.
- Renting – in extreme cases where you’ll find yourself unable to move into your new place for more than just a couple months. In these cases, it’s almost always best to rent a property. With many estate agents offering short-leases on rental properties, you can easily find a house that you can rent for 3-6 months or more.
What to do with your stuff?
When staying with friends, or in a hotel, it is highly unlikely that there will be enough space for you and all your stuff. Therefore, you’ll need to have somewhere to place your belongings in the interim. For large items, like sofas, dining room tables, and other pieces of furniture, using secure storage is often the best option.
