Take the stress out of your move

Moving house is one of the most exciting times of your life. It can also be one of the most stressful. That's why we do all we can to make it as straightforward as possible - removing the hassle and ensuring you focus on enjoying your new home.

Here are our tips on how to keep everything stress-free:

As always, it's best to think ahead and organise as much as you can as soon as you can. Make a list of all of the things you have to do. Think about everything that needs moving - the furniture, white goods, clothes, ornaments and garden items. Might there be things that you want to leave behind? Consider how much packing material you might need - boxes, bubble wrap, tape, etc

Don't leave buying boxes until the last minute. It's best to get your packing materials as soon as possible. There's nothing worse than rushing round at the last minute trying to find empty boxes in your local supermarkets. We offer a high quality range of packing materials that includes removal cartons (new and second-hand), bubble wrap, packing paper, tape, garment boxes and loose fill. Just give us a call and we can sort everything for collection from our Head Office depot.

If you decide that you'd like to pack your items yourself then it's best to start at least two weeks before the moving date. Go through your home in a structured way and think carefully about the order in which you might pack items. Will you need some items longer than others? What things can be packed straight away? Remember to label everything clearly - it'll make your life so much easier if you can quickly grab your favourite sweater or coffee mug during the first hours in your new home. Remember you can always let the professionals help - we offer a range of packing services and can tailor these to meet your needs prior to your move.

You should consider keeping all important papers with you. These can include birth certificates, school records, new job contacts, utility company numbers, recent bank statements, current bills, and estate agent details.

Think about how easy it will be for the removal van to access both your existing and future home. Be sure to notify your neighbours of removal dates and apply for any parking permits as soon as possible.

The key to a smooth move is a strong relationship with your removal company. You should sit down and discuss all of the details as far ahead as possible and then confirm everything in the run up to the moving day too. Don't be afraid to ring with any questions either - your removal company needs to be aware of any problems or issues as soon as possible. As an experienced, professional removal company we're experts at eliminating confusion, answering concerns and removing worry. We will usually send a surveyor round to your home at the very start of the process so that we understand every detail of the job.

There are a number of organisations who will need to know that you are moving home. You should inform them as soon as possible. They can include gas, electricity, water, councils, DVLA, TV, broadband, mobile, subscriptions, charities, banks, credit cards and memberships. You should also notify your employer and make sure friends/relatives have all of the correct details too. You can find details about redirecting post on Royal Mail's website.

Once you're sure everything has been moved out of your old home, remember to always do one last check. You might just spot a random item that's been missed. You should also turn off the gas, electricity (unless agreed otherwise with new owners/estate agents) and close all of the windows.

If you have young children - or pets - you may need to organise for someone to look after them while you are moving. The more notice you can give, the more likely you are to get this sorted quickly and easily.
